If you have been appointed as a member of your company's emergency response team, you may be required to hold a valid CERT First Aid certification. But what exactly does this course cover, and who needs to attend?

Under the Fire Safety Act, certain building types in Singapore are required to maintain a Company Emergency Response Team (CERT). Members of this team are responsible for managing fire and emergency situations on the premises, including administering first aid to casualties before professional emergency services arrive.

The CERT First Aid course is a certified programme that covers a comprehensive range of first aid skills, including the management of sprains, dislocations, cuts, fractures and burns, as well as improvised carrying techniques for transporting casualties. Participants also receive training in adult CPR and AED use, assessed with high performance recording to ensure competency standards are met.

The course is ideal for employees appointed as Company Emergency Response Team members, workplace safety officers and individuals requiring a valid first aid certification under the Workplace Safety and Health Act. Upon successful completion, participants receive a certification valid for two years.

For employers, sponsoring staff for the CERT First Aid course is not only a regulatory requirement but a sound investment in workplace safety. SkillsFuture training grants of up to 70% are available for eligible Singaporean Citizens and Permanent Residents, making this an accessible and affordable option for companies of all sizes.
