Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the ITC CPR + AED Instructor Course and the ITC BCLS + AED Instructor Course?

The ITC CPR + AED Instructor Course trains individuals to become certified instructors in hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation for children and adults. This course focuses on chest compression techniques and AED application without ventilation methods, making it suitable for those who wish to teach CPR in workplace and community settings.

The ITC BCLS + AED Instructor Course is a more comprehensive programme that trains individuals to become certified instructors in Basic Cardiac Life Support across all age groups, including infants, children and adults. In addition to hands-only techniques, this course covers mouth-to-mouth ventilation, bag-valve-mask (BVM) ventilation, and foreign body airway obstruction management for all age groups. This course is suited for those who wish to teach life support skills in healthcare, clinical or pre-hospital settings where full resuscitation techniques are required.

Which course should I take?

If you intend to teach CPR and AED skills in general workplace or community environments, the ITC CPR + AED Instructor Course would be appropriate. If you require a broader scope of instruction that includes infant resuscitation, ventilation techniques and airway obstruction management, the ITC BCLS + AED Instructor Course would be the recommended choice.

Do I need any prerequisites?

Both courses require participants to hold a valid provider certification from an SRFAC accredited training centre. For the ITC CPR + AED course, a valid CPR + AED provider certificate is required. For the ITC BCLS + AED course, a valid BCLS + AED provider certificate is required.

Are both courses accredited?

Both instructor courses are accredited by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC). Upon successful completion, participants are required to complete two class attachments before being endorsed as a full instructor. The instructor certificate is valid for two years and is renewable subject to the instructor conducting courses at least twice per year at any SRFAC accredited training centre.
